Phillip J. Hinson, PE is the Deputy Capital Assets Manager for the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Network Serving Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. He supports the capital planning, engineering, construction and facility operations programs for the second largest network program in the Veterans Health Administration consisting of eleven VA healthcare systems with over 500 buildings and annual infrastructure improvement budget across the network in excess of $200 million. Prior to starting with the VA in 2013, Hinson served six years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force which included a deployment on a Provincial Reconstruction Team. For his service in Afghanistan, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the U.S. Army Combat Action Badge.
In addition to his role as a Leadership Ohio board member, Hinson serves as a member of the Strategic Advisory Council to the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Hinson holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University, an M.A. in Public Policy from New England College, and is a registered professional engineer in Ohio. Hinson has been recognized with several civic and engineering awards, including a Capitol Citation from the Arkansas Secretary of State for voter assistance work and in 2018 when he was selected as both the VA Engineer of the Year and one of the top ten Federal Engineers of the Year. He is originally from Westlake, Ohio, but now makes his home in Jefferson Township, Ohio.
